Teacher As TikToker: A Personal Journey

TikTok has increasingly become one of the key social media for online teaching and learning English.  During COVID-19, a number of users, including teachers and learners, have employed TikTok as a way to develop their English proficiency and enjoy content creation. This presentation highlights my journey as a TikToker (@drkennyenglishcombo) in terms of my initial inspiration, content creation, user feedback, teaching application, and personal lifestyles.  Throughout this process, my identity has evolved from a traditional classroom teacher to an online edutainer.  My TikTok as an online resource consists of grammar, vocabulary, learning strategies, skill development, and (inter)cultural communication awareness that can promote learner autonomy and life-long learning for Thai learners and teachers.  I have exerted my agency to become more active, creative, and innovative in my own professional development and extended my personal growth beyond my comfort zone.  TikTok not only has potential benefits, but also some pitfalls that will be shared and discussed.  My talk hopes to call for further investigation on mobile-assisted language teaching and learning for effective pedagogical implications.

Fantastic Beasts And The Enchanted Forest Campaign

The Fantastic Beasts and the Enchanted Forest Campaign is a project used to introduce and campaign for endangered animals while assessing students’ language skills using the magical theme of fantastic beasts in an enchanted forest. In addition, this project highlights the process of creating awareness about campaigning for endangered animals and teaches students how to plan and create digital content using Flip. Students also learn the etiquette of giving feedback online. This project includes tasks that involve listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Finally, as a result of this project the students’ classroom-based assessment scores improved, especially among the remedial students.
